In the past, obtaining dental crowns used to be a multiple visit experience, but technological advancements in the field of medical dentistry have made it possible for one-day crowns such as these to be available to patients.
Benefits of CEREC Dental Crowns
CEREC is a technology that has grown in popularity because of the benefits it offers, including:
- Restorations made while you wait, in about an hour
- Crowns color matched to your natural teeth
- Ideal fit
- No biting down to make plaster impressions
- Crowns as durable as those made with the traditional process
Using the advanced CEREC® system, Dr. Strober will now be able to create a custom made ceramic restoration that not only matches your tooth color, but also fits you perfectly, all this while you wait. This eliminates the need for multiple visits that are usually required for the installation of dental crowns because dentists previously to make impressions of the patient’s mouth or be fitted for temporary restorations while the actual crown is being fabricated elsewhere. With the CEREC® One-Day crowns, the patient can book an appointment, visit the dentist, and walk out with a an amazing restoration all in one day.
How CEREC Works
To create CEREC® One-Day crowns, the CEREC® system, that uses advanced CAD/CAM technology, will take an image of the patient’s teeth. This image will then create a 3-D representation, or an optical impression, of the new tooth. The completed design will serve as the blueprint for the dental crown, and will be sent electronically to the milling chamber where a small block of high-quality ceramic or porcelain will be planed and sculpted into shape. Color staining may be done additionally so that the resulting crown will match the patient’s tooth color more closely. This entire procedure will take about 15 minutes to complete.
Meanwhile, the tooth to be treated will be prepared in the same conventional way, by paring down a portion of the enamel in order to accommodate the restoration. After the preparation, the newly made CEREC® One-Day crowns will be placed over it to act as a protective cap, and will be cemented in place. And just like that, the patient now has a fully functional restoration that took roughly an hour to complete, instead of the 4-week wait with traditional dental crowns.
