If you’re wondering about the benefits of dental implants compared to complete dentures or partial dentures, let me help you understand why I often recommend implants if you have one or more missing teeth.
Most importantly, implants provide a permanent solution to missing teeth. They can essentially last forever because they are fused with the jawbone. They never have to be removed for cleaning and won’t ever fall out. This also means that you won’t have the problems eating that are common with dentures.
Dentures look a lot better than they used to, but they’re not fully functional for chewing. It can be hard to chew certain foods with dentures, especially when you’re eating in public. But dental implants let you chew all the foods you enjoy now.
Because they’re fused with your jawbone, implants lead to stimulation of the jawbone. Without stimulation, your body begins to remove bone from your jaw. Your jawbone will shrunk. Your dentures may fit now, but as the jawbone shrinks, they’ll need to be adjusted frequently, and still you will likely get a hollow, sunken facial appearance because of the lost bone.
Dentures can feel bulky, like you have a lot of extra material in your mouth, but implants are just like your natural teeth–they feel natural. And they look natural, too. They can either be made to blend in with your natural teeth, or they can serve as the focal point for a complete smile makeover, using other cosmetic dentistry procedures to give you the beautiful smile you’ve long been wanting but thought was out of reach.
