Brace Yourself: Invisalign® Works Clearly, Comfortably

Misaligned teeth can contribute to a number of dental problems, many of them painful. And while traditional metal braces are effective in correcting bite conditions, they aren’t exactly painless themselves. With Invisalign, however, you can achieve a perfect smile simply, comfortably and virtually invisibly.

Although not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign, a consultation with Dr. Rod Strober, an Invisalign Premier Provider who has helped more than 250 patients correct misaligned teeth and bite conditions without the use of metal braces, can determine if Invisalign is right for you.

Bite Conditions Treatable with Invisalign

Caused by misalignment of the upper and lower jaws, crossbite forces teeth to bite to the inside of their corresponding upper or lower teeth. If left untreated, crossbite can lead to chipped teeth, prematurely worn teeth, gum disease and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), which generates excessive pressure on the joints that connect the lower jaw to the skull and produce headaches and jaw pain among other symptoms.

Underbite is distinguished by the lower front teeth extending over the top front teeth; the condition is often hereditary and is the result of the undergrowth of the upper jaw, the overgrowth of the bottom jaw or a combination of both. Underbite, like crossbite, can cause premature and uneven wear on your teeth, as well as lead to TMJ.

Overbite can be hereditary or the result of long-term, poor oral habits such as thumb sucking, nail biting and pen chewing, and is characterized by the upper teeth biting over the lower teeth. Conditions affiliated with overbite include chipped or fractured teeth, root damage, jaw problems and gum disease.

Correcting Your Smile with Comfort

If Dr. Strober finds that Invisalign will be beneficial to your specific condition, a series of clear, custom-made aligners will be crafted. The aligners fit snugly and comfortably over your teeth; there are no metal wires or brackets to irritate your mouth, and no painful adjustments are necessary. Invisalign aligners are easy to remove for eating and drinking, and they come with no restrictions on food and beverages.

You change the aligners every two weeks, and your dentist monitors your progress with follow-up visits approximately every six weeks. Unlike metal braces, which trap food particles and snag toothbrush bristles, Invisalign aligners are easy to clean with simple brushing and rinsing.

If you live in the San Diego, La Jolla or Coronado, California, areas and would like to schedule a consultation to see if you’re a candidate for Invisalign, please contact Strober Dental.
